       Staff Council Corner

Staff Council’s orientation last week was a marvelous session. Thank you to all who contributed to the successes of the day including Meg Grant for facilitating the passing of the baton and to Dr. Gratz for conducting our installation ceremony. Of course, thanks to Johnny Carino’s and my special thanks to Rhonda Acker for all the great food.

One of the highlights of this meeting was finalizing all of Council’s leadership positions for next year. Deborah McDaniel from Liberal Arts stepped up and volunteered for the Chair-elect position. The previously determined balance of Council’s Executive Committee consists of Rhonda Acker from Biology as Secretary, Ruth Ross from HR as Member-at-large, James Mathews from SLAC as Member-at-Large, and I will be Council Chair.

This is going to be a vibrant council with many things to accomplish. Issues we may expect to address concern staff representation on council, the on-call compensation recommendation made by the Compensation and Benefits committee last year, computer training and access for all staff, and educational opportunities for staff and their families. If there is any truth in the rumor mill, perhaps we will be discussing a parking permit fee increase for staff. I hope not.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, September 14 at 10 am in LBJSC 3-3.1. All parties are invited to attend. Dr. Perry Moore will be present to meet and be welcomed to Texas State by Council and others in attendance.

Best wishes to all in their attempts to survive the beginning of fall semester!!

Ps. In last month’s Staff Council Corner, one of my remarks was misprinted. Instead of saying, “…I hope you have a happy FAS,” it should have said, “I hope you have a happy SAP.” p
