Council Corner
Our meeting last week was highlighted by the introduction of our new
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Perry Moore. It
was an informal session intended to acquaint Dr. Moore with Council
members and vice versa. Dr. Moore is a delightful and very valuable
addition to Texas State and we welcome him with typical Texas hospitality!
Dr. Moore, keep an eye on Purgatory creek. It occasionally gets pretty
rowdy!
Considerable time was also spent during the meeting discussing a potential
increase in University parking permit fees. Many of you are aware that
rumors are fairly rampant campus wide concerning an increase. However,
we have received a statement via email from Bill Peeler, co-chair of
the Transportation and Parking Committee that states “there have
been no parking fee proposals brought to the …Committee, where
increases, if indeed there are any, will originate.” He goes on
to say that fee increases could be discussed at future meetings but
that the “sentiment at present” is to await the recommendations
of the Master Plan consultant before considering further parking issues.
I think it is therefore safe to assume that anything repeated about
a parking fee increase at this time is pure speculation.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, October 12 from 10 to 12 in the morning
in LBJSC 3-3.1. It is an open meeting so everyone is invited to attend.
Don Fehlis, Assistant Director, Human Resources and FAS team member
will be present to describe and explain the policy and procedure changes
that will occur on HR matters with the advent of SAP in December. This
will be an excellent opportunity for Council and guests to get detailed
information from Don concerning the expected changes and the effects
that are anticipated.
Goodbye to summer 2004 and welcome to fall (and a lower electric bill).
