       Staff Council Corner

By Pam Graham

While most of us were enjoying two weeks off over the holidays, there was a group of people who were giving up some of their personal time in order to insure that we all got paid on January 3. Right quick I want to say that we know many people have worked very hard and made personal sacrifices to implement all of our new software and business processes. Not the least of these is our beloved FAS Team. However, though we all work in a noble environment and we all know that none of us is going to grow wealthy doing this, our paychecks (even the electronic ones) are very important to us. Having said all of that, my purpose is to express hearty appreciation to all of those individuals who personally contributed and sacrificed so that University employees could get our first new system paychecks on time. These folks are Roxie Weaver, Richard Boren, Heather Phillips, Emily Ando, Mary Riley, Selma Selvera, Rosie Olivo, Don Fehlis, Gaye Korenek, Michelle Massey, Joyce Manske, Jeff Magness, Jodi Steen, John Piersol, Martha Lee, Michael Brister, Robert Moore, Ryan Patterson, and Susanna Sladek. If I have missed anyone, will someone please let me know? Thank You to each of you.

FAS team members who had attended our January meeting and entertained input from office personnel from across campus returned to our February meeting with a response. Don Fehlis delivered this feedback at the Council meeting and it was generally agreed to be very positive. One issue that drew no response was the concern surrounding additional and burdensome workloads for office workers. Council is seeking a response and a prescribed process for relief of this issue and will be publishing more information in the future. We are also seeking the text of Don’s presentation to make certain it is available to all concerned. Please remember that finding solutions to issues like these is a shared responsibility.

Sharon Nusbaum will be presenting information at our March meeting about the ID Card expansion project. We hope to hear from the Transportation and Parking Committee so watch your email for a notice about our March agenda at a later date. If you have a topic you’d like Council to address and want time on our agenda, please contact me or any Council member with your request. A list of current Council members, their phone numbers and email addresses can be found at http://www.txstate.edu/StaffCouncil/Members05.htm. At the bottom of that same page, there is a link to send email directly to Council which is currently forwarded to me. Please use these channels of communication freely. Council meetings are open to all who wish to attend, but these meetings always go more smoothly if speakers are planned rather than impromptu.
