Question: I would like to know why we have interviews for applicants if we cannot use any information from that interview. What purpose is the interview? Answer: The information gathered during an interview is designed to assist managers in making a final hiring decision based on further assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skill, and abilities (KSAs) as they relate to the job posting. Interview questions should be designed in such a way so as to obtain additional information related to these KSAs. Questions that are designed to gather information in addition to the KSAs necessary to perform the job duties should be used carefully. There should be a connection between every interview question and a KSA listed on the job posting. Information not related to the requirements listed on the job posting cannot be used to justify selection or disqualification of an applicant. Human Resources approves the KSAs
for each job posting, so account managers know they can ask questions based on
the information contained in the job posting. The information gathered during
the interview can be used as part of the hiring matrix or in addition to the
matrix. Equity and Access can then use this information to assess the hiring
process and approve the new hire.
