Council Corner
By Pam Graham
Our December program meeting was
a presentation by Nancy Nusbaum on
the Campus Master Plan. Nancy’s “road show” is a
real eye opener for all of us, new members of staff and also veterans. There are some visions of our campus many of
us do not regularly see and also there is a vision of the future that is quite
enlightening. Several Council members
had good suggestions, ideas, and comments in the way of feedback for Nancy and her steering
committee. We look forward to future
developments of this plan with great anticipation. We hope to have Nancy back in the spring to fill us in on new
developments.
Also our monthly meeting was a
pot luck lunch giving Council members a chance to sit and break bread together
and chat in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.
Thanks to all members who helped arrange the affair and to all the great
cooks that we have on Council.
Our January regular meeting to be
held on the 11th at 10am
in Alkek 105-106 will include a presentation by Steve Prentice and other
members of the University Transportation and Parking committee regarding
proposed changes for next year. Given
the rumors that seem to abound on campus about a fee increase, I think it
probable that will be part of the discussion, but we should withhold judgment
until their presentation.
The balance of our January
meeting will entertain discussion regarding the awkward position of many
offices across campus as a result of the implementation of SAP. We’ve heard and we know that a degree of
discomfort is very normal with systems implementations. However, there have been enough offices and
members of staff express concern to us that we plan to open our January meeting
for this discussion. Again, we ask all
of staff and faculty to direct comments and concerns regarding the effect of
SAP implementation on their various offices and any suggestions for improvement
to Council for consideration and discussion.
If you would like a block of time on Council’s January agenda, please
contact me or any Council member. A list
of current Council members, their phone numbers and email addresses can be
found at http://www.txstate.edu/StaffCouncil/Members05.htm. At the bottom of this same page, there is a
link to send email directly to Council which is currently forwarded to me. Please use the above channels of
communication freely. Council wishes to quickly
establish if there is anything that we can do to improve the seemingly bumpy
process of implementation.
