Staff Council Corner
by Susan Thompson

This is my last article for the Human Resources Bulletin in my role as Staff Council Chair, and I want to take just a little bit of space for myself. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve in this position for the past year - while sometimes it has been quite challenging, it has always been rewarding. I especially want to say a great big THANK YOU to all of the representatives who served with me this year. It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of you.

Staff Council sometimes receives requests for information that may be of use to all staff. Recently, someone asked why SWT staff members who take classes do not receive student ID cards. While on-campus offices can use card readers to recognize student status on our staff ID cards, off-campus vendors rely on the ID card's printed information. The staff member who asked this question wanted to take advantage of off-campus discounts that are offered to students.

We raised this issue with ID Services and learned that staff members who enroll in SWT classes may obtain a paper temporary card to prove student status. Cards can be obtained from ID Services in 314 J.C. Kellam after tuition is paid for the semester. Temporary student ID cards expire at the end of each semester.

Staff Council's bylaws call for an annual report to be submitted to the University President each August, and our FY 2002 report is now available on our web site (http://www.swt.edu/staffcouncil), where you can find lots of information about Staff Council. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. until noon, usually in JCK 460. SWT staff members are always welcome to attend our meetings.
