Staff Council Corner

by Susan Thompson

Staff Council has worked on a variety of projects over the past decade, such as efforts to improve staff salaries, reward staff appropriately, maintain traditional holiday breaks, beautify the campus, and create a comfortable and safe working environment. The common thread throughout all of these projects has been the desire of Staff Council representatives to represent the concerns of SWT staff.

This year, Staff Council continues to work on the improvement of staff compensation, and we hope to participate in developing an institutional plan to improve staff salaries. Another priority is to improve our own effectiveness. We want to do our best to represent issues of concern to staff, and are working to find ways to identify the issues that are of concern to staff.

We maintain a web site (http://www.swt.edu/StaffCouncil) as our main way of communicating with staff, and I encourage you to bookmark and visit that site frequently to obtain the latest information about your Council's activities. I also encourage you to contact one of your elected representatives or send an e-mail message to Staff-Council@swt.edu with your ideas about how Staff Council can improve service to you and/or what issues Staff Council should address.

Payroll Reminders

Please remember that the deadlines and pay periods for the month of December are different from the normal schedule. The schedule may be viewed at http://www.vpfss.swt.edu/gao/payroll_deadlines_FY2002.htm. These deadlines will be strictly enforced due to the shorter time period.

The Cashier's Office in the J.C. Kellam Building will be open Wednesday, January 2, 2002 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for anyone wishing to pick up their paycheck.
